Generation after generation, kids all across  America set up lemonade stands on neighborhood

curbs, dreaming of selling out their supply and filling their pockets with money.  To them it’s their first taste of entrepreneurship that’s marked with a sense of pride and ownership.  To them this is serious business.

But, when we don’t teach them the skills to run it successfully, we inadvertently set them up to fail.  That lemonade stand isn’t just a way to keep a child occupied for an afternoon.  It’s a valuable lesson that helps them learn business acumen, in the same way they may learn teamwork from playing sports,

to think critically from math and science, or to be creative through the arts.

Biz in a Boxx is a fun, interactive business tool designed for kids and teens to have a positive first experience running a business in the real world.  They gain the life skills of responsibility, accountability and ownership that are not only translated into all areas of their lives, but sets them up for success both now and in the future.

Biz in a Boxx is designed to teach young entrepreneurs the practical fundamentals of starting their own business, encouraging them to take full ownership over their decisions.  The workbook offers a step-by-step guide that helps the young entrepreneur organize their business, from coming up with an idea to adding staff, figuring out a competitive price, target market selection, and marketing and advertising.  Older entrepreneurs learn about branding, opportunity costs, taglines, manufacturing and more.  Each Biz in a Boxx is a step to the next level, and the secure website allows for the young entrepreneurs to learn more about growing their business from their peers.  Because Biz in a Boxx focuses on ownership and a positive first experience, each workbook is designed for the young entrepreneur to complete independently while giving them the know-how to take their business beyond their front door.

Melissa Rose created Biz in a Boxx in 2008 after recognizing that her 12-year-old daughter, Sydney, needed to learn how to become a responsible and accountable teenager.  Knowing that Sydney would gain these skill sets if she had something in her life that gave her complete ownership, Melissa wrote the first workbook, CEO Apprentice.  She watched how her daughter and her two friends comprehended the subject matter and applied it right away, noting their attention spans and what information was necessary yet fun for them to move their business along.  Within a week of starting, the three girls formed their business, got an investor to cover their expenses, created a website and business cards, designed their ads, hired four independent contractors and began soliciting customers.

Melissa earned her B.A. in Journalism in 1991 from the University of Arizona and her M.B.A. in 2003.  She started her first business, a marketing company, at the age of 20.  She’s been self-employed for the past 18 years
